Ernest MEISSONIER (1815-1891) Full-length portrait of a king's musketeer Oil on mahogany panel Signed lower right 24.5 x 15 cm Framed Condition report available on request: [email protected] NOTICE Born in Lyon, Ernest Meissonier was a pupil of Léon Cogniet and began exhibiting his paintings at the Salon of 1834. After the Italian campaign, he made a name for himself as a history painter. He exhibited widely at the Salon and founded the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1889.
