[UNIFORMOLOGIE] Docteur LIENHART & René HUMBERT - Uniforms of the French Army From M. Ruhl in Leipzig, 1897-1906 - A very fine copy of the first edition, complete with all 5 volumes, of this magnificent and lavishly illustrated work, a true classic of uniformology. The 5 volumes are beautifully bound in full burgundy red percaline cloth, smooth spines with titles, authors and tomaisons in gilt lettering. Very good condition, with a few minor defects, the interiors are also very well preserved with no foxing or soiling, a few very rare and minimal color discharges on the facing page for certain plates, a few traces of moisture on the first 2 pages and the last 15 pages of the last volume, marginal traces nevertheless signified by correction. Exceptional set of color plates: 82 in the first volume (including 20bis and 46bis), 80 in the second volume, 62 in the third, 87 in the fourth and 84 in the fifth and last volume, for a total of 395 plates, complete. The chromolithograph plates provide synoptic tables of the various French army uniforms from 1690 to 1890. 200 years of uniforms condensed, described and illustrated in every detail, a mine of knowledge on the subject. In-4, 6pp +145pp, 4pp + 187pp, 4pp + 242pp, 481pp, 4pp + 634pp + 1p afterword. Provenance: From the library of film director, producer and actor Louis Becker, Paris, with his bookplate on the flyleaf of each volume. He was the son of film director Jean Becker.
