Also includes a facsimile of a letter from Marshal Pétain. This rare and much sought-after publication is a goldmine in uniformology, and this copy is one of the very rare 25 copies of the first edition on IMPERIAL JAPON (number 8), enriched with an ORIGINAL AQUARELLE by Maurice Toussaint on the false title page, unadvertised in the justification. Splendid period binding signed "Pasque ? 7, rue de la paix" in full navy-blue morocco, 5-ribbed spine, gilt roulettes on tail and head, gilt fillets on edges, same morocco border with double gilt fillets on counterpanes and marbled paper endpapers, fully gilt edges; in matching bordered slipcase, tail and head head headbands in the colors of the French flag BLEU-BLANC-ROUGE, uncommon enough to be highlighted. EXEMPLAIRE UNIQUE exceptionally accompanied by a separate volume containing a SUITE DES PLANCHES D'UNIFORMES en sépia des illustrations de l'ouvrage, this suite is not announced in the justification, it is in sheets placed in a half-cotton folder with matching slipcase.
