A post-impressionist artist, he is associated with the Crozant school. Many of his paintings are held by the Musée Bertrand in Châteauroux, the Musée George Sand et de la Vallée Noire in La Châtre and the Musée Saint-Vic in Saint-Amand-Montrond.

[George SAND] - Captain Stanislas d'ARPENTIGNY (Yvetot 1791 - 1861, infantry captain and chiromaniac, friend of George Sand) / 1°) Autograph letter signed, 1 p in-8, to Emile Aucante (1822-1909, George Sand's collaborator): he sends works destined for George Sand and asks that his friend provide him with "Le Diable aux Champs" by George Sand - 2°) Autograph letter signed, 2 p in-8, to Emile Aucante (1822-1909, collaborator of George Sand): one of his real-estate agent friends has just returned from Châteauroux, where he heard that "Mme S. was planning to sell Nohant and the lands that depend on it", he praised the qualities and efficiency of his friend, "I did not want to write directly to Madame S. on this subject, for fear that this rumor of a sale, if unfounded, would distress her, but if indeed this sale is desired, let me know so that it may be hastened by the care of the friend in question"; he adds, and this allows us to date this letter, that "Comme il vous plaira" (a play in 3 acts by George Sand) "is always praised in the salons always blamed at the Comédie française, which is indeed the most fossilized audience in Paris".
