This biography of the Emperor grew out of the Emperor's interviews with Emmanuel de Las Cases on St. Helena, and contributed in no small measure to the importance of the Napoleonic myth. Elegant half-carton bindings with smooth spines, brown morocco title-pieces, sunning to spines, fresh interiors, some light foxing but not serious. Complete with the folded hors-texte table (Tracé de Longwood) in volume 2, the folded hors-texte map for the understanding of some chapters of the Italian Campaign dictated by Napoleon in volume 3 and the large folding map of St. Helena in volume 8. The Memorial is completed by three texts: Napoléon en exil by O'Méara, Derniers moments de Napoléon by Antomarchi and Historique de la traduction des restes mortels de l'Empereur Napoléon aux invalides by F. Fayot. The latter two texts are interspersed with Napoleon's will. The work concludes with an appendix containing the Report of Monseigneur le Prince de Joinville to the Minister of the Navy, dated Cherbourg, November 30, 1840, the Act of exhumation and delivery of Napoleon's remains, and the Procès-verbal of the Surgeon-Major of the frigate La Belle-Poule. A fine copy in a publisher's binding signed by Boutigny, one of the most sought-after conditions for this book.
