[AMERINDIANS] Georgi HORNI - Originibus Americanis libri quatuor Adriani Vlacq, Hagae (The Hague), 1652, first edition, in Latin, of one of the main works concerning the controversy over the origin of the Amerindians, which began in 1642 following the publication of Hugo Grotius' "De Origine Gentium Americanorum", declaring that all North American Indians were descendants of pre-Columbians, with the exception of the Yucatan. A fine copy in its period Dutch binding in full parchment with gilt-lettered spine, title box with largely faded writing, slight split at top of first spinebone, boards a little soiled and a few tears not serious, lower hinge partly detached from body of book.
