[SCIENCES] Isaac NEWTON - Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica Amstelodami (Amsterdam) Sumptibus Societatis, 1714 - First Amsterdam reprint of the second edition of this important text, its author's masterpiece and one of the most influential of all scientific texts. This second edition is prefaced by Roger Cotes and augmented by Newton's Scholium generale, and includes numerous additions to the first edition, added by the author in the intervening years. This is a sought-after edition, of which fine copies are extremely rare. A superb copy in a period binding, parchment on the smooth gilt spine (gilding a little faded), boards slightly soiled but with a particularly good patina of age. Interior in fine condition, a few leaves a little browned. The beautiful folding plate is complete.
