VOLTAIRE - Poems on natural religion and the destruction of Lisbon Sans nom d'éditeur, à Paris, 1766 - Uncommon first edition of these poems dedicated to the disaster caused by an earthquake in Lisbon on November 1, 1755, resulting in the deaths of 50-70,000 people. This work is very rare among the author's first editions, and is usually found bound in collections of miscellaneous items. This copy has been specially bound and preserved in its period binding in full calf, 5-rib spine and ornate boxes, red morocco title page, gilt edges. Slight rubbing and small snags to the box and lower spine of the second plate, not serious. A fine copy with a very fresh interior. Small in-12, 63pp.
