OVIDE - Ovid's Metamorphoses in Latin and French Chez Basan et Le Mire [Pissot] à Paris 1767-1771 - Very charming edition of Abbé Banier's translation, featuring a beautiful engraved title page-frontispiece in the first volume, a rich illustration of 30 vignettes, a cul-de-lampe at the end of the 4th volume and 139 figures drawn by Boucher, Choffard, Eisen, Gravelot, Leprince, Monnet, Morenu, Parizeau and Saint-Gols engraved by Baquoy, Basan, Binet etc., and the text in Latin with its French translation opposite. Elegant period bindings in full calf with well-ornamented smooth spines, red morocco title-pieces, framed with gilt lace and fillets to the boards, slight rubbing and scuffing not serious, the gilt edges and gilt lace borders to the counter-pieces make this a very fine copy, in fine condition.
