[RELIGIOSA] [UNIQUE EXEMPLAIRE] Roman Hours From Alfred Mame & Fils in Paris, no date [circa 1890] - A very fine copy of this exceptional book of Roman hours, entirely HAND-RAINTED IN COLORS, a formidable work of painting in different colors, this copy was produced for the descendants of the "Le Rouillé" family, The family tree has been completed in pen and ink over 4 full pages, tracing the family history back to the 15th century, with names such as Guillaume Le Rouillé, lawyer and author of the customs of Normandy and Maine ("Le Grant Coustumier du pays & duche de Normendie", 1534 and "Le Grant Coustumier du pays & Cote du Maine", 1535). The tree ends in 1895 with "to be continued". Each page is superbly painted, perfectly complementing the text printed in the center by the Mame printing house in Tours. Magnificent period binding by J. Kauffmann in full burgundy morocco, 5-rib doubled spine extending over the boards, gilt roulettes at the head and tail, same morocco borders on the inside covers with gilt fillet frames, moiré paper endpapers with the DS monogram, fully gilt edges and chased decorations of fantastic animals, inspired by the book's illustration. Excellent condition, beautifully preserved in its original slipcase, this one slightly damaged, but not seriously so. Superb UNIQUE EXEMPLAIRE. Fort in-12, (28) 516pp.
