[RELIGIOSA] [16TH CENTURY LATIN BIBLE] Biblia Iconibus [...] Hebraeorum, Chaldaeorum, Gracorum, Latinorum nominum difficilium, explicatio Antverpiae (Antwerp) Ex officina Ioannis Steelsii 1543 [Bound with] Sanctu Jesu Christi Evangelium - Secundum Matthaeum, Secundum Marcum, Secundum Lucam, Secundum Iohannem, second part with beautiful woodcut title page (dated late 1541 in Antwerp) Superb edition of this Latin Bible in two parts, illustrated with numerous woodcut vignettes, initials and ornaments, the second part is particularly spectacular with 21 large and beautiful woodcuts depicting scenes from the apocalypse. Bound in period style with cold-stamped boards, spine and spinebands skilfully restored and red morocco title-piece rebacked (probably 18th century work), headband accident, clasps missing. The first part, comprising 370 pages, has no missing pages, but one page with 4 woodcuts has been laminated to the flyleaf, possibly the frontispiece? The second part is quite complete with text, the last index leaf is visibly missing, and a hard-to-attribute leaf, perhaps an added one, has been laminated to the last flyleaf. Nevertheless, a very rare copy in fine condition, internally fresh, with little soiling or wetness. (15) 370pp, 86pp, 50pp (7) (recto paginated only)
