Description

Spanish school; c. 1790. "Still life". Oil on canvas. Relined. Presents Puncture. Measurements: 47 x 57 cm; 60 x 70 cm (frame). In an interior of dark and indeterminate space are presented, on a horizontal board as a table, only three elements; a glass with wine, olives and meat, all of them on a white cloth. Despite the economy of the elements that make up this still life, one can appreciate a display of the author's virtuosity that represents numerous tactile qualities. This work is heir to the Hispanic still life school, which has its roots in the first decades of the seventeenth century. Thus, we see a still life of crowded composition, with the elements arranged in an indefinite space and magnificently constructed through the play of light and shadow, and an exquisite work of the qualities. Highly appreciated within the antiquarian market, as well as among collectors and art historians, the Hispanic still life school of the Baroque enjoyed a spectacular development, leaving behind the splendors of the sixteenth century and progressing within a fully Baroque and clearly identifiable style. It presents perforation.
