Description

Spanish or Italian school of the 18th century. "Hunting day". Oil on canvas. Relined. Presents restorations. Measurements: 104 x 167 cm. In this painting the painter shows us an Italianate landscape crossed by a meandering river, with architecture in the background and a hunting scene in the foreground, located in a clearing on the bank. In this foreground we see the two hunters spotting their next victim. The Italianate landscape derives from the discovery by Dutch and Flemish painters of the Italian landscape, mainly that of Claude of Lorraine. They were particularly attracted by its lights, golden and pink tones on the horizon, which create a diffused and idyllic atmosphere of calm and tranquility. The Italianizing landscape painters will create less realistic landscapes than the rest of those found in the Central European Baroque, idealized and in a certain way artificial, scenographic.
