A FINE INLAID LACQUERED SUZURIBAKO DEPICTING MARINE-LIFE A FINE INLAID LACQUERED SUZURIBAKO DEPICTING MARINE-LIFE Japan, first half of 20th century Of rectangular form with rounded corners, worked in gold hiramaki-e and crushed seashell inlays, depicting various mollusks and seasnails amid seaweed. The interior decorated in gold hiramaki-e and nashiji with two trees by a stream and fitted with a water dropper (suiteki) in the form of a teapot, an inkstone (suzuri), a paper-cutting knife (kogatana), and a kiri (auger). SIZE 25.3 x 22.3 x 3.9 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and small losses to the seashell inlays with associated repairs. With a fitted red-lacquer box.

The scales and details lacquered in gold, black and red, the dragon eyes of inlaid mother-of pearl, and the clouds and flaming pearl inlaid in crushed seashell. SIZE 99 x 68.9 x 38 cm WEIGHT 12 kg Condition: Overall good condition with wear, cracks to the lacquer, small losses to inlays, tiny nicks, and minor chips.
