Our painting is a reproduction of the right-hand side of the 1563 painting by Veronese in the Louvre. It is the first copy, painted in 1856 by Fantin - Latour. Fantin -Latour copied several of the great masters he admired, including Veronese, Giorgione, Titian, Rubens... He made several copies of the Wedding at Cana between 1856 and 1870. Most were commissions. The 1857 copy was painted for the collector Beecher - Srtowe. In 1859, Fantin - Latour painted a small canvas for Monsieur Pina, of Mexico City. The 1861 copy was for Sir F. Seymour Haden, and the 1865 copy for Monsieur Dilberoglou. The 1867 copy, for Monsieur Homer, is now in the Ulster Museum (Ireland).
