Johann Strauss II was born on October 25, 1825 and died on June 3, 1899. He was an Austrian composer known especially for his waltzes, such as The Blue Danube. Son of composer Johann Strauss I and brother of composers Josef Strauss and Eduard Strauss, Johann II is the most famous of the Strauss family. He was known in his lifetime as "the king of the waltz" and to him we owe much of the popularity of the waltz in 19th century Vienna. He revolutionized it, elevating it from a peasant dance to an entertainment dance suitable for the Habsburg Imperial Court. His works enjoy greater popularity than those of his predecessors, such as his father and Josef Lanner. Some of his polkas and marches are also well known, as is his operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat). It is probably in the Donation Pens series where Montblanc's vocation for the promotion of art and culture reaches its highest expression. With the Donation Pens series, Montblanc pays tribute to extraordinary personalities of classical music through a fountain pen. The pieces of the Donations Pens' Johann Strauss, are made of black Montblanc noble resin. The champagne-colored gold-plated details are decorated with ornaments inspired by the music. The pen clip represents the bow of a violin. The cap ring is elegantly engraved with the signature of Johann Straus and the Montblanc emblem crowns the cap. The 14-karat gold nib is engraved with an engraving of a bat dedicated to his operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat). No box. Unused. Good state of preservation.
