Coinciding with the Award, a unique limited edition writing instrument inspired by a historical patron is commissioned each year to honor contemporaries. Montblanc on the occasion of the founding of "Montblanc de la Culture", in 2005 launches the Montblanc "Pope Julius II" fountain pen, in a limited edition of 4810 units worldwide. Pope Julius II was born on December 5, 1443 and died on February 21, 1513, was the Pope n.216 of the Catholic Church from 1503 to 1513. He is known as "The Warrior Pope" because of the intense political and military activity of his pontificate. He was a great patron of the arts. He protected among others Michelangelo and Raphael. The construction of St. Peter's Basilica began under his regime. Under his orders Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. The fountain pen features a luxurious gold-plated design on a cream-colored background. The cap is designed to symbolize the tiara of the Pontifex Maximus. One of the most beautiful pens produced by Montblanc. The nib is made of 18 carat gold and is engraved with the seal of Julius II.
