One quire partly disbound. Corners worn, rubbing to boards. Stains, small tears, pitting. Complete with plates but not collated. Colas, I, 1302. Third edition of this famous work by diplomat, traveler and artist Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757-1810), describing the various peoples known at the time. Divided into two volumes, the first is devoted exclusively to the peoples of Europe, and contains 80 plates. The second deals respectively with the peoples of Asia (36 plates), Africa (18 plates) and the Americas (22 plates). Most of the engravings depict men and women from the various peoples described; they are engraved in aquatint in full color. There are also 4 allegorical aquatint frontispieces in color (Europe, Asia, Africa and America) and 6 folding maps engraved in color (Mappemonde ou le Globe Terrestre en deux Hémisphères, Europe, Asia, Africa, Amérique septentrionale and Amérique méridionale).
