1851 COLT NAVY REVOLVER CASE, once owned by General Alexis L'HOTTE (1825-1904). In walnut, decorated with a brass motif on the lid, sheathed in wine-red velvet, shaped, with one covered compartment, it contains: - a Colt Navy 1851 percussion revolver, six-shot, 36 caliber, single action. Rifled, fluted barrel, marked on top "ADRESS COL COLT LONDON". Cylinder engraved with naval battle scenes and "ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843". Silver-plated brass trigger guard and bridle. Varnished walnut stock plates. Bronze patina finish. English proof marks. No. 22372 (year 1855). Overall length: 32.5 cm Barrel length: 19 cm - and accessories: bullet mold signed Colt, cleaning rod, chimney cleaner, copper and brass powder flask from G. J.W. Hawksley, capsule box marked "W C ELEY COLT'S PT". With key (lock needs overhaul). Box dimensions: 36.5 x 17.5 cm. English boxing, period. A.B.E. Provenance : Alexis L'HOTTE (1825-1904) Born in Lunéville (which dedicated an exhibition to him at the Hôtel Abbatial in 2022), he was a Saint Cyrien and served in the cavalry. Particularly in the cuirassiers and dragons. Chief Squire at Saumur under the Second Empire, he later commanded the school in 1875. Inspector General of the cavalry at the end of his career.
