Scope: 21 sheets on 17 plates, Technique: ink, charcoal and pencil drawings on various types of paper, in matching passepartouts and portfolio, Signature: unsigned, personally signed below the table of contents by Dr. Walther Ilges, who vouches for the authenticity of the sheets with provenance, Dimensions: from 8.5 x 8 cm to 36 x 24 cm, passe-partout 46.5 x 33.5 cm each, Provenance: before 1899 the historian and writer F. Walther Ilges (1870-1841) received the drawings from the artist's estate directly from Fr. After his death, the drawings came into the possession of the grandmother of the present owners. Condition: good, sporadically slightly stained, somewhat wavy or creased, plate 18 with sheet 22 missing, portfolio waterstained and bumped, Comment: These works, acquired by Walther Ilges, were partly published in his monograph on Munkácsy and subsequently bound in this portfolio. It also contains the above-mentioned table of contents written by Ilges himself, listing and naming each individual sheet. Many of these drawings are studies for later Munkácsy paintings. Some of them appear to be unpublished. The present portfolio is therefore unique and an extremely valuable addition to Munkácsy's oeuvre. The authenticity of the portfolio has not been questioned by Muncácsy expert Dr. Judit Boros. Literature: F. Walther Ilges: Künstler-Monographien, M. von Munkacsy, Bielefeld and Leipzig 1899. + Scope: 21 sheets on 17 plates, Technique: ink, charcoal and pencil drawings on various types of paper, in matching passe-partouts and portfolio, Signature: unsigned, personally signed below the table of contents by Dr. Walther Ilges, who vouches for the authenticity of the sheets with provenance, Dimensions: from 8.5 x 8 cm to 36 x 24 cm, passe-partout 46.5 x 33.5 cm each, Provenance: before 1899 the historian and writer F.
