He studied at the academy in Bruges and lived in Brussels. In addition to genre scenes and marine paintings, he created numerous cityscapes, often depicting Brussels. Around 1839 he began to concentrate on scenes by night and moonlight. Watercolor, heightened with white oil paint, on blue wove paper. Signed. Mounted in spots under mat and framed under glass. - The oil paint with craquelée in spots. Paper a bit wavy due to mounting. At all in a very good condition. Atmospheric and finely worked out scene which gets its charm by the adept combination of watercolour and oil paint. - Flemish painter and representative of Flemish Romanticism. Donny was best known for his atmospheric scenes at moonlight.
