Wilson, George Washington

A Roman glass fragment with "Zwischengoldglas" technique from the bottom of a vessel, 3rd century A.D. Hand-blown glass from the bottom of a vessel with two transparent glass layers fitted together. Gold leaf overlay between them on the lower layer. The details outlined in the gold leaf with a needle. The image shows a lion sejant affronté inside a circle. A star at the right of the field. Spalling at the edge of the round base fragment towards the wall of the lost glass vessel. Slightly corroded on the surface. Diameter circa 7.5 cm. Provenance: From the collection of a South German classical philologist, who acquired it in the 1950s to 1960s. Part of the family estate ever since. Condition: II - III

A porcelain trumpeter from the Gallant Chapel, Friedrich Elias Meyer, 1750 (design), Meissen, circa 1910 (finish) Porcelain, painted in color, painted gold. On a rocaille base. Underside with pommel mark (1860 - 1924), painter's mark "18" and impressed number "12.4?". Rubbed. Height 14.8 cm. Condition: II
