Ramié, Picasso, catalog de l'œuvre céramique édité, 1947-1971, Madoura, 1988, N° 95 reproduced page 56 (for a similar model) Bloch 8 Pablo Picasso had been experimenting with ceramics since the early 1900s. But it was after the end of the Second World War that his ceramics production really took off, lasting almost twenty-five years. This turning point was the result of two collaborations: one with the Vallauris studio, the other with the Madoura studio. Spending most of his time in the South of France, Picasso first visited the Vallauris studio in the summer of 1936, accompanied by Paul Éluard. This visit gave rise to his first production. The artist brought ceramics from the studio to his residence, the villa La Californie, which he decorated and sent back to the studio for firing. The years 1947-1948 marked a decisive turning point in his production, as it was during this period that Pablo Picasso met Suzanne and Georges Ramié from the Madoura studio. Georges Ramié welcomed the artist into his studio. Nearly two thousand pieces were produced during this prolific Madoura period, some of which have been exhibited.
