Baoulé anklet, Ivory Coast Metal, Brass Baoulé anklets were made of copper alloy using the lost-wax technique. An element of identity, prestige and rank in Côte d'Ivoire, they were very heavy and bulky. Also used to ward off evil powers, they could also be used as currency. In the past, young nubile girls wore them all the time. Once married, they were worn only on special occasions (funerals, births, etc.). Depending on the degree of decoration, the object's use ranged from everyday to special occasions, becoming an object of prestige. The surface is punctuated by horizontal linear decoration, magnifying the central frieze.
