Émile BERNARD (1868-1941) Study of Breton Women, 1888 Ink and ink wash on paper. Signed and dated 1888 lower left. Inscribed in black ink: "all the delicacy of young forms, [...] especially in the more or less arched opening of the two [...] velvet torso in [.] ... embroidered [arr...] in velvet ... red green and blue apron down to the bottom ... the foot shod with a colored [vio...] or green slipper is in a black clog or socq [...]". 31 x 24 cm PROVENANCE : - Atelier Émile Bernard - Clément Altarriba Collection - Private collection, Paris NOTE : A preparatory study for Bretonnes au Pardon, a painting by Émile BERNARD in the Musée d'Orsay that was taken over by Vincent VAN GOGH in 1888. A certificate of authenticity from Madame Béatrice RECCHI-ALTARRIBA, Émile BERNARD's granddaughter, will be given to the buyer.
