Claude FÉRIGOULE (1863-1946) Arlesienne Silver patina bronze proof Signed on the terrace Height 17.8 cm A similar terracotta work, preserved at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. Claude André Férigoule was born into a farming family in Avignon Campagne Champfleury on April 19, 1863. After studying art in his hometown, he entered the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts on scholarship in 1888, studying under Alexandre Falguière. He competed for the Grand Prix de Rome. He returned to Avignon in 1891, where he married painter Adrienne Jeanne VINCENT on August 9, 1893. The couple remained in Avignon until 1896. In 1897, he succeeded Marius DIEUDONNE as curator of the Museon Arlaten and director of the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He stepped down in April 1924, replaced by Horace RICHEBE. He ended his career as drawing teacher at Collège Frédéric Mistral in 1928. He was one of F Mistral's founders of the Muséon Arlaten, and appears in the photo of the seven founders: Frédéric Mistral, Docteur Bayol, Honoré Dauphin, Mèste Eissetto (Henri Eyssette), Docteur Marignan, Paul Mariéton and Claude Férigoule.
