Ad Viuum expressae extremaque diligentia emendatiores factae, Gallicis in expositione homoeotelentis, ac versuum ordinibus (qui prius turbati, ac impares) suo numero restitutis. Lyon, Jean Frellon, 1547. In-12, cream vellum, smooth spine, horizontal title (later binding). Magnificent suite of woodcuts by Hans Lutzelburger, after drawings by Hans Holbein. The most complete edition, containing 98 figures, 6 more than the first of 1538. Each woodcut is accompanied by a Latin text and a French quatrain by Gilles Corrozet. The engravings are in an excellent edition. There are 2 types of copies of this book with French and Latin text, dated 1547. The first, whose proofs are pale but beautiful, was printed on the original woodcuts; the second, with the same date, was printed on clichés. This copy conforms in all respects to Brunet's III-253 description of the original woodcut. Bound with the GAY-LUSSAC supra-libris, probably by Jules Gay-Lussac son of Louis-Joseph Gay-Lussac famous French chemist and physicist, known for his studies on the properties of gases. A very fine, fresh copy, with a few leaves a little short of margin.

Reprint of the 1760 edition, illustrated with an etched frontispiece by Amédée LYNEN. Edition of 260 copies; one of 250 on English laid paper. Some foxing. (Gay, I, 416.)

In-8 of [1] f. engraved and colored title, 72 pp. in English and 70 plates (ch. 1-70) of engraved stones. Red long-grained morocco, richly decorated smooth spine, gilt title, gilt garland framing the boards, gilt edges (period binding). Scratches on the boards. Some foxing or light yellowing of leaves, slight transfers on the pages opposite the engravings. Rare English edition of this no less rare libertine work attributed to Baron d'Hancarville, who worked between 1765 and 1776 to catalog the antiquities collection of Sir Hamilton, British ambassador to the court of Naples. The original edition was published around 1771 (Gay III, 1808).
