A LATE MEDIEVAL PIETA probably French, 15th/16th century H. 77 cm Oakwood, carved with back. Remnants of old polychromy in red, blue, etc., later overpainted with dark oil paint. Age damages, especially in the base area and on the extremities. Restorations. Mounted on the back with a modern stand. Collection label Schlossmuseum Altenburg, No. 1332. Property of a thuringian noble family, formerly Schloß Poschwitz near Altenburg.
