Palamedesz., Anthonie (attr.) Delft 1601 - Amsterdam 1673 46 x 75 cm (Erratum: In the meanwhile Prof. Jochai Rosen has confirmed the authorship of Anthonie Palamedesz. on the basis of images). A pair of beggars in an upper class setting. Oil/panel. While Palamedesz. usually depicts the affluence of the bourgeoisie in his numerous society pictures with splendid clothing and sumptuously furnished interiors, here we find a rare juxtaposition of poverty and wealth that is touching due to the openly shown compassion of the goodman and his family.
