Silver and glass monstrance/reliquary resting on a six-lobed base embossed with gadroons, the baluster shaft topped with a relic of Saint Barbara, sealed on the reverse with a wax bearing the arms of a bishop. Soissons, Hanisset, 1694; small square in-8 of [4] ff., 1 bl. f., 27 pp, contemporary old red morocco, gilt fillets framing the boards, large coat of arms in the center, ornate ribbed spine, gilt edges, modern plexiglas case. A very rare record of the coronation of Louis XIV, unknown in the Ruggieri catalog, which is nevertheless quite complete. The author was bishop of Soissons and had himself crowned Louis XIV. The aim was to defend the right of the bishops of Soissons to crown the kings of France against the ecclesiastics of Reims. A very fine copy bearing the arms of Achille III de Harlay (1639-1712), first president of the Parlement de Paris and friend of Madame de Maintenon. He was one of the most important figures of the Grand Siècle and possessed a splendid library, most of which was bequeathed to the Jesuits.
