A LARGE PARTIAL OPENWORKE GEORGE II SILVER TRAY WITH ENGRAVED COAT OF ARMS London, 1751 D. 70 cm Separately openworked rim with mascarons, festoons with grapes, rocailles and shells. The centre engraved with a double coat of arms with crown and lion, hallmarked with lion marks, the date letter "q", master's mark John Harvey I (Grimwade 1401-1404). Weight indication on the bottom. Ca. 5620g. Plate restored at the rim, the openwork rim with minor traces of soldering. Sotheby's, London, Auction Important Silver Gold Boxes and Fabergé, 9. November 2000, Lot 200 The arms are those of Yorke with Gray in pretence and acollée with Campbell for Philip Yorke (1720-1790), 2nd Earl of Hardwicke. He married in 1740 Jemima daughter of John, 3rd Earl of Breadalbane. This salver is closely similar to examples by Paul de Lamerie. This example dates from 1751, the year of Lamerie's death, when his remaining stock was sold by public auction.
