A BRONZE MEDICINE VESSEL AND COVER, KHMER STYLE

A BRONZE MEDICINE VESSEL AND COVER, KHMER STYLE Cambodia or Thailand, 19th century or earlier. Finely cast, the smooth vessel supported on a flaring foot rising to a short body with a straight rim. The domed cover decorated with a bud finial. Condition: Very good condition with wear, casting flaws, signs of weathering and erosion, encrustations, small scratches, and light nicks. The vessel is covered in a naturally grown patina with vibrant malachite encrustations. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
