† A KHMER BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA, THAILAND, LOPBURI PERIOD, 13TH CENTURY Finely cast, standing in samabhanga with both hands held in vitarka mudra, wearing a long diaphanous sanghati secured at the waist by an elaborate tasseled belt and richly adorned with ornate jewelry. His contemplative expression with heavy-lidded downcast eyes, urna, and full lips. The hair arranged in conical chignon behind a multi-pointed crown. Provenance: Stephanus Grusenmeyer, Chaopraya Arts & Antiques, Bangkok. A noted private collection, acquired from the above. A copy of the original invoice from Chaopraya Arts & Antiques, signed by Stephanus Grusenmeyer, accompanies this lot (note that all personal information and purchase price are omitted from this document). Condition: Very good condition with minor old wear, mostly from within the culture, as well as signs of weathering and erosion, casting flaws, small nicks, losses and dents. The bronze is covered in a rich, naturally grown patina with vibrant malachite encrustations.
