A SANDSTONE HEAD OF VISHNU, ANGKOR PERIOD, 10TH-12TH CENTURY Khmer Empire. Superbly carved, the serene face with full lips and almond-shaped eyes with incised pupils, beneath gently curving brows, flanked by long pendulous earlobes, the hair in braided rows rising to a tiered chignon secured by a foliate tiara. Provenance: Giafferi Auctions, 16 December 2014. RD collection, Paris, France, acquired from the above. A copy of the auction announcement from Giafferi Auctions, with an image of the present lot as one of the highlights, accompanies the present lot. Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive weathering, some wear, losses, nicks, encrustations, and a fine natural patina overall.
