A GOLD RING WITH AGATE INTAGLIO OF A HORSE, ANCIENT REGION OF GANDHARA, 5TH-7TH CENTURY The ring with a rounded band supporting the flat base of the gem setting, the sides of which taper upward. The inset and setting finely worked with filagree beads in pairs of three and four. The agate gem incised with a stylized horse. The agate gem is possibly a later addition from Southeast Asia. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe. Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age, with minor wear, manufacturing flaws, minute encrustations, minuscule dents, and the stone with natural flaws.
