A SMALL BRONZE FIGURE OF LAKSHMI South India, 17th-18th century. Standing in samabhanga on a stepped pedestal, the consort of Vithoba depicted with her hands on her hips and adorned with jewelry, the head surmounted by a conical crown. Provenance: Collection Particulière Française, and thence by descent within the family. According to family repute the piece was acquired 1981 in Pondicherry, India (known today as Puducherry). Condition: Good condition with casting flaws and extensive wear, predominantly from centuries of worship. Some losses and the bronze with a dark, naturally grown patina. Weight: 156.2 g Dimensions: Height 9.1 cm Literature comparison: Compare a closely related figure of Lakshmi, 7.3 cm tall, dated to the 18th century, in the British Museum, museum number 1940,0716.274.
