A BRASS FIGURE OF NANDI CANOPIED BY A CROWNED NAGA, INDIA, 17TH CENTURY India. Cast in two parts, the central figure of Nandi standing on a raised base with a rectangular aperture, flanked by a separately cast hooded naga. The naga spreading his hood over the caparisoned Nandi at whose feet rests a small lingam and yoni. Provenance: From an old Austrian private collection. Viennese private collection, acquired from the above. Condition: Good condition with extensive wear, predominantly from centuries of worship within the culture. Minute nicks, minor losses, small casting flaws, and minor dents. The brass with a fine, naturally grown, smooth patina.
