A SMALL BRONZE FIGURE OF PARVATI

A SMALL BRONZE FIGURE OF PARVATI South India, 16th-17th century. Seated in ardha padmasana on a lotus pedestal raised on a tiered base, the deity holding a lotus blossom in one hand, the other positioned flat on her lap, wearing a long dhoti and adorned with jewelry, the head crowned with a kiritamakuta and backed by a shirashchakra. Provenance: Galerie Arthémé (Roger Anger), 2 July 1979. Collection Particulière Française, acquired from the above. Condition: Good condition with casting flaws and extensive wear, predominantly from centuries of worship, with encrustations to interior. Small nicks and minor dents. The bronze with a smooth, dark, naturally grown patina.
