A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE ‘ZODIAC’ CHARGER, KANGXI MARK, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC China, c. 1800-1949. Thickly potted, supported on a raised foot with flaring sides, painted in shades of cobalt blue with the twelve animals of the zodiac standing in a grassy meadow encompassed by a key-fret band and four panels of peony blossoms. The exterior with blue bamboo sprouts. Provenance: From a private estate in south London, United Kingdom. Condition: The rim with an old fill and associated touchup, otherwise in good condition with minor wear, traces of use, and firing flaws, such as kiln grit to the well.
