A WHITE JADE RETICULATED POUCH-FORM POMANDER, QING DYNASTY China, 1644-1912. Comprising two bean-shaped halves, each with a thin, slightly convex surface carved in openwork with a lotus blossom borne on leafy scrolling vines. The pomander is suspended on a cord tied with a silk tassel and a carved and pierced celadon jade fastener, each formed as an endless knot. Provenance: German trade. Acquired from a private estate in Hamburg, Germany. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, tiny nicks, and minor chips. The stone with natural fissures, some of which have developed into small hairline cracks over time. Weight: 28.1 g Dimensions: Length 4.7 cm (pomander), Width 6.9 cm Literature comparison: Compare a related white jade pomander, dated to the Qianlong period, exhibited by Bluett & Sons, Chinese Jades from the Mu-Fei Collection, London, 1990, cat. no. 74, and later at Sotheby’s London, 12 July 2006, lot 258.
