A THANGKA DEPICTING WHITE TARA, TIBET, 18TH-19TH CENTURY Distemper and gold on cloth. Mounted as a hanging scroll with a silk frame. Finely painted with the central deity standing on a lotus dais surrounded by 251 emanations of Tara. Her right hand is lowered while the left is raised at her chest, each holding a lotus stem coming to full bloom at her shoulder, one supporting a water vessel to her right. She is wearing voluminous robes and richly adorned with elaborate jewelry. Her serene face with almond-shaped eyes and smiling red lips. The hair arranged in a high chignon secured by a red band and gold tiara. Backed by a mandorla and halo. Provenance: From an Austrian private collection. Condition: Good condition with wear, minor creasing, light fading, minor soiling, folds, and small losses.
