DVARAPÂLA. Guardian of the gates of the Buddha temple. Lead with strong patina. Statue in several pieces (in need of complete restoration). The guardian is depicted bare-chested to assert his power. One arm is raised in a gesture of defiance, probably carrying a white weapon. Tang dynasty 618/907. H.86.
