CARPIONI, Julius. Prophet. Sketch by Tintoretto. Drawings.1613 - 1678 Two drawings on a sheet of mm. 264x112. Sanguine with a brush. Ivory-colored laid paper with very slight diffused foxing. Signed Carpioni. Good condition. Two drawings with characters outlined with great confidence. On the reverse an imposing prophet with watercolor that highlights the drapery of the robe; on the front a quick sketch in sanguine pencil, a study of a work by Tintoretto. Giulio Carpioni, Venice was a pupil of Padovanino who followed in Bergamo in 1631. Certainly precious for his training were the Veronese experiences of Turchi, Bassetti, Ottino, and also the style of Poussin learned through the engravings of Pietro Testa, examples by Fialetti and Simone Cantarini. Since 1636 he is documented in Vicenza where he will reside almost continuously, until his death. In the seventeenth century in Vicenza, Carpioni's style contrasted with the baroque style of Francesco Maffei: works by him appear in the museums of Vienna and Budapest, Bordeaux, Dijon, Florence, Padua, Ancona and Dresden.

Red morocco binding, Marie Leszczynska's coat of arms in the center of the covers, framed by gilt rules with fleurons at the corners, five-ribbs spine with title, gilt ornaments and lily flowers in the sections, gilt roulette on the edges of the covers, gilt edges. In the volume, 2 plates engraved o.t., one by Rubens. Copy in magnificent binding to the Arms of Marie Leszczynska, 1703-1768, dedicatee of the work, queen of France by marriage to Louis XV.

Giambattista TIEPOLO, School of. Seventeen heads. Drawings. 9 sheets, each of mm. 222x154. Black pencil on strong gray-blue laid paper. Sign of dampstain on the margins that does not affect the drawings. It is a study of the Banquet in Levi's house carried out in the workshop of Giambattista Tiepolo, by Francesco Lorenzi or by Costantino Cedini. The nine sheets, coming from a dismembered album with a trace of numbering in pencil, depict heads of the different characters in the Veronese painting, with different angles and perspectives. Eight sheets bear the designs on the front and back.

CASOLANI, Alexander. Coronation of the Virgin with Angels and Cherubs. 1552 - 1607 Watercolor drawing on paper. 444x325 mm. Black pen and monochrome watercolor on hazelnut tones. reinforced. Good conditions. Grand and complex representation, with the Holy Trinity crowning the Virgin, venerated by two kneeling cherubs. In the foreground, on the sides, two musical angels with lute and harp. The central scene is framed by a crowd of angels and cherubs emerging from the clouds. The Sienese painter, influenced by Barocci and Veronese, was an eminent representative of the mannerism of the late sixteenth century.
