Kezban Arca Batıbeki is a Turkish artist, graphic designer, photographer and director of short films.Kezban Arca Batıbeki is a polyhedric artist. She mainly focuses on how women are perceived in contemporary societies with a special consideration on the situation of women in Turkey. She is also interested on themes such as politics, censorship, sexuality and eroticism, which are often analysed with a deep, witty and at times humoristic approach. In her works, she often investigates also popular culture and the concepts of kitsch and subculture. In order to do that, and being a collector herself, she seeks out and uses old family photographs and dated magazines, old-fashioned clothes and vintage furniture. In ‘Istanbul under my wig’, the woman is portrayed with a pigeon on her head as she looks at the old part of Istanbul. There is a certain temporal contrast between the evening dress worn by the mannequin and the sun-drenched Istanbul.
