After training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Breslau under Arnold Busch, among others, he worked as a decorative painter and draughtsman from 1910. After being injured in the war, he settled in Mannheim around 1917, where he successfully painted scenes of the Schwetzingen palace gardens and the Mannheim grounds. The sketched view of the Forum Romanum presented here was created during one of his study trips to Italy (ca. 1920-1930).
