One of 275 numbered copies on Hollande paper (no. 113). A very fine copy. The binding is unsigned, but of very fine quality.

In-12, [2] f., III-569 p., contemporary half-sand calf, 5-ribbed spine, green title page, gilt fleurons, trailing scroll (browning, 2 f. short margins, tear not missing from margin of last f.). Seventh volume in the Rougon-Macquart series. Edition with the same date as the original and with the correct collation, but with a 14th edition on the title. Last blank page not preserved. Autograph signed letter from Emile Zola, "to George Bastard, his devoted colleague". G. Bastard (1861-1914), historian and publicist, was notably the founder of the Gazette illustrée. Provenance: G. Bastard (ex-dono); Panos Gratsos (Greek shipowner, coll. sold in 1981, Sotheby's: ex-libris). (Carteret II, 481).

In-12, [3] f., 390 p., green half-percaline lightly post, smooth spine, burgundy title-piece, date stamped in tail, gilt fleuron and double fillet (rubbing to boards and edges, slight foxing to faux-titre, title and qq. pages, edges slightly browned; without the 1st blank f., without the folding table nor the announcement f. at the end). First edition. Signed autograph letter from Émile Zola "to Paul Robiquet, his devoted colleague". Paul Robiquet (1848-1929) was a lawyer and historian. (Carteret II, 488).
