Brown half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved (V. Champs). Illustrated first edition, with 66 wood-engraved compositions, including 14 at the head of each chapter and 52 full-page, after compositions by André Gill, Bertall, Georges Bellenger, Bigot, Georges Clairin, J. Audy and G. Nielsen. One of 100 numbered copies on Hollande paper (no. 13) with a suite of illustrations before the letter on chine. A precious copy with 5 original signed pencil and watercolor drawings, including 2 by André GILL for the illustrations on pages 5 and 241, and 3 by BERTALL for the illustrations on pages 33, 97 and 113. A good copy, complete with the yellow front cover illustrated with a woodcut by Bertall. Spine faded. Some foxing. Provenance: bookplate with unidentified monogram.
