It is illustrated with 45 plates, including portraits of Trébutien Uzanne, Jules Janin, Alfred Delvau, Alexandre Dumas, Lamartine, etc., and numerous illustrations in the text, based on compositions by artists such as Evert van Muyden, Albert Robida, François Courboin, Henri Guérard, Louis Morin, Félicien Rops and others. One of 1,000 numbered copies on Vosges laid paper (no. 884). A good copy bound by Affolter, complete with the four general covers and including 16 of the 24 issue covers. Without the general table published in 1892. Some scattered foxing in the fourth volume.
