Comte de VIRIEU. Military Leave Certificate. Infanterie – Regiment de Beauvoir. VIRIEU, Francois-Henri, comte de. Military Leave Certificate. Infanterie - Regiment de Beauvoir. 1 November 1773. Oblong folio. 214x284 mm. Illustrations printed in woodcut, large coat of arms at the top and military triumphs on the sides and bottom. Within the central box the text is partly printed and partly handwritten. Red wax seal with the Royal Coat of Arms, the three lilies surmounted by a Crown. In the lower margin several signatures of the senior officers of the Regiment. Traces of wear and insignificant flaw on the right margin. The 'absolu' leave is assigned to Joseph Girardin, Sergeant Major of the Beauvoir Infantry Regiment. The document was viewed and approved by the Count of Virieu, 1754-1793, military man, politician and leading exponent of French Freemasonry, who was initially in favor of the Revolution and then opposed it, dying in combat.
