ORLÉANS, Louis-Philippe d' Lettre avec sign. aut. à "Monsieur le maire de la commune de Tain". Tain September 1, 1814 [1] p., 21.5 x 17.5 cm, brown ink on laid paper (traces of folds from mailing, collector's note in pencil upper left). Under passe-partout and mod. frame. The Duke of Orléans awarded the Decoration of the Lily to the inhabitants of this commune (now Tain-l'Hermitage) in the Drôme department, on the proposal of the mayor. This decoration was created on April 26, 1814 by the Comte d'Artois, future King Charles X, originally to reward the National Guards, who were responsible for maintaining public order after the fall of the Emperor.
